About the Journal
Focus and Scope
MEDISAN is a pure electronic magazine, of open access and review by pairs, published since 1997 in Santiago de Cuba province. It constitutes an essential tool for the dissemination of biomedical information through diverse digital formats, with quality of the approached topics, web accessibility and an increment of its visibility in several national and international databases, all that has contributed to the development of the local, national public health and of other countries.
Its mission is spreading the novel and upgraded scientific production in the field of biomedical sciences and in any academic area related to the health professionals training, in Cuba and the world.
That is the reason why, its thematic profile covers a wide spectrum of interests and includes the different attitudes of the investigators as for public health and higher medical education, propitiating the reflection, critical review and scientific debate.
The publication frequency is bimonthly and works can be presented in the Spanish, Portuguese and English languages and can be spread in HTML, PDF and XML formats (the latter since 2018).
The objective is to provide a contextualized information to reach higher international visibility and, with it, achieve a rapprochement among health professionals, institutions and health systems.
MEDISAN is located in the National Registration of Serial Publications in the Culture Ministry with the number 1825, page 009, volume III, and possesses 1029-3019 ISSN.
Editorial politics of open access
This magazine provides open access to its content, what means that works can be read and download without any restriction.
Its editorial politics is sustained in the respect to diversity, honesty, quality and property of the works that are published. The public to which is guided is trained by professionals, academic and Cuban and foreigners investigators that act in the field of medical sciences and other disciplines linked to health.
Sending, editorial processing and publication of manuscripts are completely free of charge for the authors.
MEDISAN does not possess embargo period and is published under the Creative Commons, International Non Commercial Recognition 4.0 license, what allows any user to copy, reproduce and distribute partial or totally the works in any platform or format, with the condition that they are appropriately recognized and mentioned and that they are not used with lucrative ends.

Peer Review Process
This magazine favors the opening of evaluation by pairs (open science), where the reviewers are aware of the identity of authors and the identity of reviewers is revealed to the authors.
The review by pairs allows a critical valuation, non prejudiced, of the manuscripts sent to the magazine that are not part the editorial staff, aimed at measuring its quality, feasibility and scientific severity. Everything is part of the academic work, including the scientific process.
Reviewers will be able to publish their opinion about works of the magazine. Therefore, they should be impartial, innovative, academic and responsible.
The reviewers are chosen by their experience and knowledge in the matter that they will evaluate, with the spirit that their concept achieves their true purposes of a good sense and high quality for the publication of what has been written.
The editorial committee checks and verifies if the work fulfills the basic requirements of the magazine, such as style, requirements of editors, clarity and important messages. After this first checking the main editor defines the referees according to the topic article. After being revised, the critics made to the autor are commented so that he opts to carry out the suggested corrections.
The final decision for the publication of a work is exclusive responsibility of the Editorial Committee after the external evaluation of the reviewers.
By means of this procedure it is possible to obtain valid and direct judgements on the quality of products or processes, it offers transparency to the publication process, improves the works and helps to verify the investigations.
Publication Frequency
MEDISAN currently adopts a single-volume continuous publication system. Its call for submissions is ongoing.
Open Access Policy
All the articles can be downloaded or read for free. The journal does not charge any amount of money to the authors for the reception, edition or the publication of the articles, making the whole process completely free. Medisan has no embargo period and it is published under the license of Creative Commons, International Non Commercial Recognition 4.0, which authorizes the copy, reproduction and the total or partial distribution of the articles in any format or platform, with the conditions of citing the source of information and not to be used for profitable purposes.
