Immunotherapy with Valergen vaccines in patients with allergic diseases

Introduction: The specific immunotherapy with alergens consists on administering to the allergic person gradually growing quantities of alergenic extract, to reduce the symptoms associated with the exhibition to this alergen.
Objective: To characterize pediatric patients with allergic diseases that received immunotherapy with Valergen.
Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 197 patients in pediatric ages with allergic diseases, assisted in the Allergy Service of "Dr. Antonio María Béguez Cesar" Southern Pediatric Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from January, 2018 to January, 2020. Absolute frequencies and percentages were considered as summary measures and for age, the mean and standard deviation.
Results: There was a prevalence of patients aged 9-13 (47.7%), the male sex (51.8%) and asthma as allergic disease (45.2%). The 41.1% of the patients were sensitive to the Dermatophagoidespteronyssius acarus and aged nine and thirteen. Regarding sex, this same acarus prevailed in male sex (41.6%). The most administered vaccines were: Valergen-DP and DP+BT combination (38.6% and 20.8%) respectively, where sublingual administration was the most used (86.3%).
Conclusions: Asthma and allergic rhinitis constituted the most frequent allergic diseases in pediatric patients. There was a higher sensitization to the Dermatophagoidespteronyssius acarus and its combination with the siboney; reason why the immunization with Valergen-DP and DP+BT sublingually were the most applied.
