Suicidal ideation, humor, and resilience in Peruvian adults

Introduction: Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among young people and adults worldwide. Suicidal ideation is a key factor in the spectrum of the suicidal behavior, and it is necessary the search of protective factors for the prevention.The resilience and the humor, internal resources of the human being,it can contribute to emotional management and positive adaptation.
Objectives: To analyze the relationship between the SI, the humor, and the resilience in Peruvian adults, besides to compare the differences according to sex.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a quantitative, correlational, and comparative approach. A total of 472 Peruvian adults participated and completed three psychological instruments. In the statistical analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM) and the Bayesian Mann-Whitney U test were used.Results: The average age was of 27 years, and the majority of participants were women (63.1%). The SI was negatively correlated with the resilience (r = -0.27, p = 0.001) and null and non-significant relationship with the humor, (r = 0.04, p = 0.487). Likewise, there are no differences according to sex, since the BF are not higher than 10.
Conclusions: The Resilience stands out as a key protective factor against to the SI, underscoring the importance of including strategies that strengthen this resource in prevention programs. while the Humor, although linked to the resilience, it is necessary further research with the SI in adults.
