Micronucleus technique as an occupational health measure
Abstract
Introduction: Occupational health's main objective is to reduce occupational risks and promote the prevention of accidents at work, which is defined as Occupational Medicine. Micronuclei are currently used as biomarkers for the detection of occupational medicine risk based on exposure to environmental contaminants and chemical agents.
Objective: Describe the epidemiological characteristics and cytogenetic response of workers exposed through the micronucleus technique.
Methods: Parameters such as age, gender, occupation, hematological variables and micronucleus technique were recorded.
Results: The female gender predominated, the age group was 40-49 years, there was no statistical or clinical similarity between those involved in the study and the micronucleus technique was negative in all exposed workers.
Conclusions: the sensitivity of the micronucleus technique as a biomarker for detecting the risk of occupational disease is demonstrated.
