Clinical and epidemiological characterization of infertile smokers with semen analysis abnormalities
Abstract
Introduction: Infertility affects 17,5% of the adult population worldwide, constituting one of the main problems to be addressed by Medicine.
Objective: To characterize clinically and epidemiologically infertile male smokers with semen analysis abnormalities.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in 203 patients aged 20 to 49 years, attended at the provincial infertility service of the General Hospital Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso in Santiago de Cuba, during the period from October, 2020 to October, 2021.
Results: The study was predominantly composed by infertile male smokers with primary infertility, aged between 30 and 34 years. In the semen analysis, concentration and morphology were affected.
Conclusions: In patients with more than five years of smoking history, concentration and morphology were affected, and immature cells were present in the semen analysis.
