Characterization of patients treated in dental prosthesis services during the second phase of COVID-19

Introduction: Dental prosthetics is a therapeutic procedure that allows for the morphological and functional reconstruction of affected or missing dental structures, as well as their associated components. During Phase 2 of COVID-19, the benefit of these services was affected.Objective: To characterize patients treated in dental prosthesis services during the second phase of COVID-19.Methods: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was carried out in 539 patients undergoing prosthetic rehabilitation, treated at the Prosthesis Department belonging Mártires del Moncada Provincial Teaching Stomatology Clinic in Santiago de Cuba, from June to July 2020. The following variables were analyzed: age, sex, types of emergency treatment, and cost.Results: A predominance of women (59.5%), the age group 60 and older (58.8%), and traditional and natural medicine consultations (35.1%) were found, followed by emergency repairs (49.2%). The cost of the treatment was highest in this phase.Conclusions: During the second phase of COVID-19 recovery, after being completed established indicators, that include a low positivity rate and epidemiological stability in the province, care for rehabilitation patients continued through various clinical procedures and consultations. These interventions were carried out in accordance with the corresponding hygiene and health measures, which resulted in an increase in associated costs.
