Nursing model for the psychoafective care of postpartum women with preeclampsia
Abstract
Introduction: One of the complications associated with the postpartum period is preeclampsia, which often leads to maternal death and significant psychological impact. Therefore, psycho-emotional nursing care is required for severe cases in the intensive care unit.
Objective: To design a nursing model for the psycho-affective care of postpartum women with preeclampsia in intensive care units.
Methods: A technology development study was conducted at the Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from January to September 2024. The model was designed based on a deductive approach, while the initial conceptualization of psychoaffective nursing care took into account the areas of knowledge related to the proposal as conceptual references.
Results: The model for psychoafective nursing care to postpartum women with preeclampsia in the ICU context stems from an existent contradiction between technological development and the growing number of nursing theories and models available. It has an objective and is structured in 3 stages with 16 actions.
Conclusions: The proposed model is a product that adapts to the needs of postpartum women with preeclampsia in intensive care units, taking into account the psycho-affective needs of postpartum women and the application of psycho-affective nursing care in contexts so in need of it, such as the intensive care unit, which promotes the recovery of postpartum women with preeclampsia and the prevention of complications.
