Interdisciplinary approach in a complex bruxism patient rehabilitated with an overdenture with copings

Abstract

The case of a mixed-race 48 years old patient who was a healthy stevedore, is described. He visited the Dental Prosthesis department at Mártires del Moncada Teaching Provincial Stomatological Clinic as he could not use his prosthesis and he wished to recover aesthetics and the rest of lost functions. After the anamnesis, oral and complementary examinations which proved the complexity of the case, with diagnosis of probable bruxism, it was decided to carry out the necessary procedures related to the biostatic preparation of the mouth, for this, an interdisciplinary therapeutic plan was implemented with the participation of specialists in Surgery, Comprehensive General Stomatology, Stomatological Prosthesis, Psychology and Internal Medicine. Surgical, endodontic and psychological treatments were carried out and comorbidities were discarded. The patient was rehabilitated with overdentures and copes over his natural teeth, he recovered aesthetics and functions with adequate adaptative response to the prosthesis. Follow-up and control of the rehabilitation and parafunction were carried out which allowed durability, functionability, therapeutic success and the patient’s satisfaction.
