Surgical treatment of giant ovarian cyst during pregnancy
Abstract
We present the case of a 30-year-old patient (G2P1) at 16 weeks of gestation who presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and dizziness. Ultrasonographic evaluation revealed a viable pregnancy and an 11 cm adnexal mass. Emergency exploratory laparotomy and right adnexectomy were performed. Intraoperative findings confirmed torsion and rupture of the cyst. The patient progressed favorably and was discharged after 4 days. Histopathological examination reported a papillary serous cystadenoma. The pregnancy concluded at 38 weeks with the birth of a healthy newborn. Timely surgical intervention was crucial in preserving maternal-fetal health in the setting of acute adnexal complications during pregnancy.
