Training strategy with nasogastric intubation using a non conventional method
Abstract
Nasogastric intubation is the insertion of a tube through the nostrils or mouth into the stomach. In difficult situations, it is necessary to use unconventional methods. A research development and innovation study was conducted in the area of medical education from September 2024 to July 2025, to propose a training strategy for intensive care nurse specialists, aimed at the nasogastric tube administration procedure with endotraqueal tube as non-conventional method. A search and update of the technique contents was carrid out, where the equipment called stylet was predominant and not the endotraqueal tube as a facilitator in the conduction of the nasogastric tube. The theoretical or experimental nature of the research design was determined by the documentary and structural systemic analysis. As empiric methods observation and technique were taken into consideration and the procedure applied was the survey. Four stages were developed to reach the conclusions and issue results. In the assessment of the indicators corresponding to the level of knowledge, twenty four professionals achieved excellent results from the technical point of view. The results in the cognitive sphere and in observation were similar. As final considerations it was evident that, from the application of the training strategy and the scientific and technological perspective, the professional can achieve the development of the technique with the non conventional method, using the endotraqueal tube.
