Perception of the multidisciplinary team on the management of the comprehensive care for patients with bruxism
Abstract
Introduction: Multidisciplinary care for the patients with bruxism transcends the clinical field for becoming an organizational challenge, requiring adequate health management to ensure comprehensiveness and continuity of care.
Objective: To assess the perception that specialists have of the patient with bruxism in the multidisciplinary team regarding the management of comprehensive care.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted at the Provincial Teaching Stomatological Clinic "Mártires del Moncada" in Santiago de Cuba, from October, 2022 to April, 2023. The population consisted of specialists who attend patients with bruxism, from which a sample of 25 was selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. A single complex variable was analyzed: the perception of the management of comprehensive care for patients with bruxism, which was operationalized into 5 dimensions and 32 indicators. A questionnaire was administered to specialists with more than 10 years of experience, among dentists, doctors, and psychologists. The data were processed and summarized in absolute and relative frequencies.
Results: The surveyed specialists perceived the management of comprehensive care for it as affected, with an average of unmet aspects of 48.0 %. The dimensions with the greatest impact were the perception of rehabilitation management (62.9 %) and the perception of prevention management (45.6 %).
Conclusions: The assessment of the management of comprehensive care for patients with bruxism from the specialists' perception reveals significant theoretical and practical limitations in the dimensions of rehabilitation management and prevention.
