Suicide with a sharp weapon

Abstract

   

Suicide represents one of the most persistent and complex human problems. The use of sharp weapons is relatively uncommon within the medico-legal field. This phenomenon constitutes one of the leading causes of death, significantly affecting all generations, which underscores the urgent need for attention and effective prevention strategies. A case of suicide by sharp weapon is presented, in which the individual inflicted several incisions with a razor blade on the anterior surface of both upper limbs, injuring arterial and venous structures in this anatomical region. These injuries caused considerable blood loss, resulting in irreversible hypovolemic shock. Maintaining an analytical approach and a cautious attitude is essential in forensic investigations. Individuals resort to multiple methods, circumstances, and contexts to end their lives, ranging from the most common procedures to the most unexpected ones.
