Abstract

The altruistic story of a group of young people that by the time they finished their medicine studies, in 1960, chose for their graduation the name “Las Ardillas” is briefly exposed in this work.  From 200 members of that course, graduated in Havana University, 25 came to Santiago de Cuba, and of them, 8 stayed in this city where they have dedicated their lives to the most human of all the tasks.  Due to the festivities for the 495 anniversary of Santiago de Cuba foundation, the Municipal Assembly of the People´s Power awarded, in solemn session, the distinction of City Illustrious Sons, to these prestigious professionals.  “Las Ardillas” were the first to swear, sign and give to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, their commitment of serving to those most destitute in any place of the Cuban island.
